Ferric chloride, chemical formula FeCl3, comes in the form of a brown solution at about 40% of ferric chloride concentration.
Ferric chloride, also known as ferric perchloride or ferric chloride III, is widely used in the automotive or electronics industries for the attack on metals. It is used in physical-chemical treatment of urban or industrial wastewater for the reduction of phosphorus, suspended solids, colloids and COD. It is also used to fight against odour problems and for sludge conditioning on filter press.
Depending on the degree of purity, ferric chloride can be used in drinking water production to precipitate the suspended solids and colloids.
In March 2010, Feralco Environnement and Novacid announced having joined in Feracid, a new company, to build a manufacturing unit of ferric chloride with a capacity of 50,000 tons which will start production during the 2nd quarter 2011.
